Supplements

Extra help to maintain balanced nutrient levels.

Maintaining balanced nutrition is not only significant for good health but also for maximizing weight loss success and long-term weight maintenance. Weight loss patients, especially surgical patients, require lifelong nutrient supplementation to stay healthy and continue successfully working towards their lifetime weight loss goals. We offer an array of supplements and meal replacement options to our patients that play a large part of each patient’s success.

Supplements are necessary to avoid any vitamin or nutrient deficiencies that can be associated with bariatric surgery.

The Supplement 4-1-1

While specific supplements and dosages will vary based on each patient’s unique needs, most bariatric patients need one or a combination of many supplements to maintain their health.

  • Pre-existing conditions and the different types of surgery affect each patient’s supplemental requirements.
  • Most patients need a daily multivitamin that is designed specifically to help surgical patients replace nutrients.
  • Supplements for bariatric patients are engineered to be easily absorbed and provide the correct amount of nutrients to people who have had weight loss surgery. These supplements have been created to work in sync with all of the other tools that the weight loss patient is using to live a healthier life.

What We Recommend

New Dimensions provides a variety of supplements and meal replacement options that we feel positive about offering in our office, but the choice about what to buy is ultimately each patient’s. We feel strongly about creating a regimen for each patient that can be sustainable, making it important to find products that each individual finds appealing and easy to stick to. We have created a collection that meets both the doctor’s and the patient’s needs in supplementation, but there are many great products available for weight loss patients.

We provide Bariatric Advantage and Robard products at new Dimensions because we feel that they offer the best nutrients, and our patients tell us that they prefer the taste. Each patient has a variety of different needs that must be met, and we feel that we have created a supplement and meal replacement line up that can do the very best job at meeting those needs.

What Supplements Do Bariatric Patients Need?

  • Multivitamins. These basic supplements help compensate for the overall decrease in food intake.
  • Iron. Without supplementation, 30% of bypass patients develop an iron deficiency, and 50% of those will develop anemia.
  • Calcium. Calcium deficiency can lead to Osteoporosis. Many bariatric patients lack the stomach space needed to properly absorb the proper amount of calcium, making supplementation vital.
  • Vitamin D. This should be included with the calcium supplement to help the body use calcium effectively. People with a history of obesity are at high risk for Vitamin D deficiency.
  • Vitamin B-12. Without supplementation, 30% of bypass patients develop B-12 deficiency. B-12 is absorbed in the intestines and stored in the liver. It is necessary for the growth and replication of all body cells and aids in the functioning of the nervous system. B-12 deficiency can cause serious types of anemia and even neurologic problems.
  • Others. Some patients need other therapeutic vitamins, omega 3s or extra minerals.
