Professional Resources

Collaborating with healthcare professionals to provide the best patient care.

In 2001, San Antonio was ranked as the most obese city in the nation. While we’ve fallen from the top spot, we’re still in the top 10, and 28.4% of all adults in our city were obese in 2010.

As San Antonio’s most respected bariatric practice, we believe it’s our job to educate patients, employers, insurance companies and physicians on the impact and management of the obesity epidemic. As with any chronic disease, obesity is most effectively treated as a lifelong imbalance that needs to be monitored medically. We see referring professionals as trusted partners, and we work closely with them to help our patients regain and maintain a healthy lifestyle for the long term.

The process of treating overweight and obese patients can be daunting. Healthcare professionals face many barriers, including limited resources, inadequate reimbursement, time constraints, competing demands, insufficient training in counseling, and a lack of confidence in their ability to treat and change behaviors. Clinicians need resources to help them quickly and easily identify each patient’s weight loss needs, tools to identify patients’ primary barriers and obstacles to losing weight, and a method for developing individualized messages and strategies to enable patients to successfully lose weight and maintaining weight loss.
