Charity Weberg, BS, PA-C

“I didn't find Bariatrics – it found me.”

Charity Weberg graduated from Physician Assistant school at Midwestern-Chicago in 2006. She was almost immediately approached by a bariatrician, who felt that Charity’s education in exercise physiology (Iowa State University,1995) and respiratory therapy (El Centro College, Dallas.1998) would have her well-prepared to understand and work with bariatric patients.

Bariatrics turned out to be a great fit for Charity and for patients. Her combination of medical degrees not only helps her counsel patients in weight loss, but she is also especially well prepared to give advice on how to exercise in order to achieve their goals. Charity’s experience as a respiratory therapist helps her address co-morbidities such as sleep apnea and other serious illnesses. We’ve also found that Charity has a great natural ability to get to the core of issues that are holding patients back, whether those are mental blocks or medical mysteries.

Today, Charity participates in every phase of bariatric patient care other than the actual surgical procedures. She sees over 20 patients each day in various stages of their weight loss journeys, from the initial evaluation before surgery through all the phases of post-operative care including Band management, lab follow-ups and coaching and support. Dr. Pilcher has heard many grateful patients comment on Charity’s availability, insight and her sympathetic but no-nonsense advice.

Christa Black, MHP, PA-C

“It is my joy to help others acheive their potential for happiness through improved health and well-being.”

Christa has been a Physician Assistant in Bariatric Surgery for the past 12 years, having practiced in Boston, Omaha, and San Antonio. A native Bostonian, she completed her undergraduate education at Simmons College, where she earned a dual Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Philosophy. For four years between college and PA school, Christa worked as a Program Coordinator at Boston's largest fertility center. During PA school, Christa became fascinated with surgery and planned to pursue a career in a surgical practice after spending some time in Primary Care. Soon she was led to meet and work for Boston's top bariatric surgeon, and her love of the specialty developed.

After meeting and marrying her husband, a dietitian in the United States Air Force, Christa moved to Omaha, NE where she became the first PA in the Surgery Department at the University of Nebraska.  At Nebraska she spent much of her time assisting in the operating room and providing outpatient care in the bariatric clinic.

The Air Force brought Christa and her family to San Antonio and New Dimensions, where Christa is involved in all aspects of patient care, specializing in Adjustable Gastric Band management, and preparing patients for complex revision surgery.

Christa's passion for strong provider-patient relationships and her love of surgery make Bariatric Surgery a natural fit, since Bariatric Surgery is one of the few surgical specialties that requires long term care. She has a genuine empathy for patients with the complex disease of obesity. Christa's empathy and her straightforward honest approach help patients make the difficult life changes required for success.

Christa has been an active member of the American Society for Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery for many years, and has conducted and published obesity-related research.
